Become a Mentor for Disability Mentoring Day!

Mentoring Graphic with images of Training, Motivation, Coaching and Support

Independence, Inc. is always recruiting local businesses, organizations and individuals who understand and support the need for full inclusion of people with disabilities into the workforce, to join us for Disability Mentoring Day and act as a mentor to local high school students for a morning of job-shadowing.

The mentoring experience: The Mentorship program matches our youth participants with local Business Mentors for a morning of job shadowing and real-life work experience. The youth participant will watch, learn and listen as he/she gains insight into their mentor’s business, the workplace in general and the position for which they are shadowing. The mentors will watch, learn and listen to his/her youth while gaining valuable insight into the heart and life of a young person with a disability on the cusp of adulthood, wondering what it will be like to attempt to enter the local workforce.  This is a much-needed and valuable partnership for everyone involved!

Current mentor needs for Disability Mentoring Day 2019 include:

  • Artist, Graphic Design
  • Bed and Breakfast
  • Construction/Brick Mason
  • Photography
  • Fashion
  • Farm and Ranch
  • Musician/Song Writer
