Peer Support Group

The Peer Support Group is a social group that meets monthly and provides friendship, social activities, and speaker presentations for those who attend. The group usually meets the last Monday of each month.


Cooking Club

The Cooking Club is a social group that provides Independent Living Skills Training in the areas of meal planning and preparation. The Cooking Club meets the second Monday of each month.


Music Appreciation Group

The Music Appreciation Group (M.A.G.) is a social group.  M.A.G. provides free-form jams, speaker presentations, and musical workshops for consumers.  In December, 1999, M.A.G. changed its name to M.A.G.N.E.T (Music Appreciation Group Not Especially Talented).


Craft Group

The Craft Group works on a variety of projects, such as decorative pillows, greeting cards, potpourri jars, and decorations for various Indy events. Bring your ideas and we can all work together!


Human Diversity Task Force trainings

A series of trainings on a variety of topics, helping ourselves as individuals, our agency and our community to understand, accept and appreciate human diversity. Meetings take place, usually during the day, at Independence, Inc. in Lawrence, Kansas.


Educational Workshops 

Independence, Inc. sponsors workshops to increase  awareness of the lives of people with disabilities. These take place in communities in Douglas, Franklin and Jefferson counties of Kansas.


Access Task Force 

The Access Task Force (ATF) is a grassroots advocacy group based in Lawrence, KS that does systems advocacy for changes needed in the community based on requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. ATF also advocates for new laws or changes in existing local, state and federal law related to the civil and human rights of people with disabilities. ATF meets at Independence, Inc. on the first Friday of each month at 1:00pm. For more information contact Bob Mikesic, bobm@independenceinc.org; (785) 841-0333.
