HOME OF YOUR OWN PROGRAM

The Independence, Inc. Home of Your Own project is working to promote and manage the opportunities for homeownership to persons with disabilities in Lawrence, Kansas. The mission of our project is to create a mechanism that will enable people with low income and with disabilities to purchase their own homes. We have formed a Home of Your Own Advisory Council made up of persons with disabilities, representatives from the housing industry and from agencies that provide services for persons with disabilities. If you:
  • have a stable income of at least full Supplemental Security income or (SSI) or Social Security Disability Income (SSDI),
  • would be a first time home buyer,
  • earn less than 80% of the median income in this area,
  • are willing to work on improving your credit history if needed,
  • have a disability or have a child with a disability and
  • want to purchase your own home,
  • live in Lawrence, Kansas,
