Computer Learning Center 

(CLC)

The Computer Learning Center is a fully accessible computer training facility in Lawrence, Kansas for persons with disabilities.

The training lab consists of 10 Dell personal computers, equipped with a variety of software, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and typing instruction programs. The computers are equipped with a variety of assistive technologies to insure their accessibility to all individuals. Our assistive technology includes screen readers for Windows, screen magnification, voice input, alternative keyboards, trackballs, keyboard modification software, scanners and a Braille printer.

Training is provided through either independent study or formal classes. Classes and workshops are held Tuesday-Friday. Recent classes have included the following:

  • Introduction to Computers
  • Introduction to Windows
  • MS Access --- Database
  • MS Excel --- Spreadsheets
  • MS Word --- Word Processing
  • Introduction to Adobe Photoshop
  • The Internet and Persons With Disabilities

Internet training at the CLC allows students to discover the power of the World Wide Web, including HTML. The following web pages were created by students at the Computer Learning Center:

Computer Classes

  • These classes are for people with disabilities, and are open to the public, if there is room available.
  • Class information and registration is now available. Stop by Independence, Inc. to pick up a catalog of classes, or go to http://independenceinc.org/forms.html for the catalog and application forms.
  • There are fees for the classes. If you cannot afford a class, please contact Mark Creamer, 785-841-0333, ext. 237, or email mcreamer@independenceinc.org, to discuss the possibility of reduced fees.

  • DONATE TRAINING SOFTWARE AND LICENSES
    Since we train a great number of people and technology is always changing, we are always in need of new software programs, upgrades and multi-user licenses for use in our Lab and our new Vocational Training Programs. if you'd like to help, you may donate either the new software itself or funding to help pay for the software, upgrades and licenses. Brailling Services

Braille Fees

  • $5.00 - $15.00 setup fee (includes setup, minor changes)
  • $ 0.25 per single page brailled
  • $ 0.50 per double sided page brailled
  • Minimum charge for small jobs: $5.00

Special Services

  • $1.50 per binder
  • Major changes, typing, etc. -- $60 per hour (pro-rated by .25 hour increments)
  • Special order paper at cost, including shipping & handling

CLC Hours:  CLOSED Mondays
                        8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
           
The CLC will close its doors while classes are in session.
