HB 2020 (Housing Visitability) Supporters:

The Senate Committee on Federal and State Affairs has not taken any action on HB 2020 since the hearing well over a month ago. All we've heard is that the committee is concerned that the requirements would increase building costs and would be bad for developers of low-cost housing. We don't know
what their specific concerns are, but no doubt the committee is facing pressure from the building industry.

We need to push committee chair, Sen. Nancey Harrington, to work the bill  now!

Please take the following action steps:

  • Contact Senator Nancey Harrington (785) 296-7367 Room 143-N, State  Capitol, Topeka, KS 66612
  • Urge her to work HB 2020 and vote it favorably out of committee.
  • Remind her that SB 304 (similar bill in 1999-2000 session) passed overwhelmingly in the Senate by a vote of 30-8.
  • Ask her why the bill has been held up and what the committee's specific concerns about the bill are.
  • Contact your Senator
  • Ask your Senator to speak with Sen. Harrington to find out specifically why HB 2020 is being held up in committee;
  • Call your Senator back to make sure s/he follows through and to find out what s/he learned.
  • Ask your Senator to remind Sen. Harrington that SB 304 passed overwhelmingly in the 2000 Senate by a vote of 30-8.
  • Ask your Senator to support HB 2020 and to vote favorably when the bill gets to the Senate floor.

    If we don't push HB 2020 now, it will die in committee!

    to share any information you find out, or if you have any questions. Thanks
